Day 31: A Warm and Splendid Day (2/5/22)

Today dawned fair and warm and sunny. Another day in paradise (yawn). As I sat in my lawn chair, enjoying the sunshine, I thought about a phone call I’d received from Rachel in Seattle. The whole family had had Covid a couple of weeks earlier, and she was still trying to build up energy and catch up with projects.

Why don’t I fly out, I thought. Just for a few days, Just to help out if I can. Looking up flights from Phoenix, I found an amazing deal on Delta for $11.20 and 11.000 points—a steal. Phil agreed I should go, so I called Rachel, bought the tickets for the following Monday, and set into action: make soup, make Toto’s food, bake cornbread, clean the trailer, pack, make a grocery list.

Phil did his usual workout with weights and his disciplined workout on the piano as well:

The end of the day was peaceful, and my upcoming trip helped me to appreciate the beauty and serenity of our surroundings even more than usual.

On reflection, my decision to go to Seattle for the following week is partly due to a need to feel useful, to do something to help the family I love. Plus, my appreciation for warm and splendid days can wane a bit, when they keep coming, one after the other after the other… Time for some cool, cloudy weather! And grandkids!
